Description of the Main Project Objective
Traditionally used synthetic drug carriers have many disadvantages due to their bioincompatibility, excretion from the body, immunogenicity and allergic reaction. To overcome these problems, there is now a great interest in developing novel drug carriers that match the complexity of the natural membranes of different cell types. Our main goal is to explore innovative marine bioinspired algal carriers for model organisms that will enable advances in life sciences and biotechnology, to investigate the relationship between morphology-structure-composition-properties-reactivity-biocompatibility and to test the ability to encapsulate and deliver model drugs.
