Department of Health Technologies

Department of Health Technologies is a new department of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Comenius University Bratislava. Research includes interdisciplinary approaches and focuses on the development and improvement of technologies aimed at enhancing the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients.

The health technologies sector represents a fundamental pillar of modern healthcare. A significant component of it includes medical devices, in vitro diagnostic medical devices, medical instrumentation, and software. Given the rapid growth in innovations in medical diagnostics and therapeutic technologies, along with the tightening of quality and safety standards, depending on classification and risk level, medical devices are subject to new and stricter regulatory requirements throughout their entire lifecycle.

The scientific-research potential of the department is oriented towards the challenges of advancing healthcare technologies, while maintaining a focus on patient safety and the quality of the technological intervention provided. The Department of Healthcare Technologies participates in teaching across all study programs of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Comenius University in Bratislava. In the bachelor's study program, the teaching emphasizes the technological aspects of medical devices and in vitro diagnostic medical devices (e.g. materials technology and quality control). In the master's degree program in pharmacy, the teaching is focused on the use of medical devices in pharmaceutical care. The new master's degree program in management and healthcare technologies is a two-year program conducted by the Faculty of Pharmacy in close collaboration with the Faculty of Management at Comenius University Bratislava. Graduates of the program will find employment in a broader range of healthcare professions, including managerial positions.
